Prière de Saint-Jérôme

Dirigez-moi, douce étoile de la mer,

à travers les sombres flots de ce monde ;

préservez-moi du naufrage, Ô Marie !

Tendez-moi une main secourable

pour m'attirer vers Vous ;

lorsque mon âme sortira de mon corps,

daignez venir à sa rencontre pour la recevoir.

Ô Marie ! Ne me refusez pas la grâce

de la soutenir alors par Votre Sainte présence :

soyez son échelle et sa voie pour monter au Ciel,

et obtenez-lui enfin son pardon et le repos éternel.

Ainsi soit-il.

O Lord, show Your mercy to me
and gladden my heart.
I am like the man on the way to Jericho
who was overtaken by robbers,
wounded and left for dead.
O Good Samaritan,
come to my aid.
I am like the sheep that went astray.
O Good Shepherd,
seek me out and bring me home
in accord with Your will.
Let me dwell in Your house
all the days of my life
and praise You for ever and ever
with those who are there. 

Through your anger and confrontations you remind us that we all have a duty to confront others from time to time. You also remind us that we have a duty to examine ourselves and confront our own weaknesses and harmful behaviours. Your life teaches that I must accept others for who they are. You taught of the danger of self-righteousness; of the importance of reflecting upon one of Jesus' most insightful teachings: "Let the man who has no sin on his conscience throw the first stone." In the light of your teachings, Saint Jerome, help me to see my own self clearly. Help me to confront my own biases and to act to change others only out of love. If I see that I have the duty to confront another, I ask you to be with me during those necessary but unpleasant moments of confrontation. Help me to remember that love alone can make changes for the good. Amen.

By God's grace you gave us the Latin Bible, help us to always live the Gospel as Christ intended

Oh Blessed Jerome, you left your life of pleasure for the service of Christ Help us to always put Christ first over our own desires

As a fearless lion of the faith you never gave into heresy or worldliness, intercede for us that we too may stand strong

against the heresies that surround us, aid us in restoring faith in the one true Church of Jesus Christ, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
